Setting Up VPN on Your Windows 10 Computer

1. On the taskbar click on the "Network" icon, and then click "Network Settings".

2. Click on the "VPN" option, then click on "Add a VPN Connection".

3. Click the "VPN Provider" drop-down menu; then select Windows (built-in).

4. Click on the Connection name box and put in a description for your connection.

5. Click the Server Name or Address box, and enter the domain name or IP address of your selected VPN server.

6. Click the VPN Type drop-down menu; then select Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with IPsec (L2TP/IPsec).

7. Click the Type of Sign-in drop down menu and select User name and password.

8. To have it save your login, enter your username and password, and select "Remember my sign-in info".

  Hint: You might have to scroll down in the VPN Configuration section in order to see some of the options.

9. When you are done entering all your information, click on the Save button to save your new VPN connection.

Setting Up VPN on Your Apple Mac

1. Open System Preferences, and then select Network.

2. In Network Settings, click the [+] button to create a new VPN service.

3. Select the interface for the new service.

4. For Interface, select "VPN".

5. For VPN Type, select "L2TP over IPSec"

6. For Service Name, you can choose what to name this VPN connection.

7. In Server Address, enter the IP address or domain name of your L2TP server.

8. In Account Name, enter your username.

9. Click on Authentication Settings.

10. In Password, enter your password.

11. In Shared Secret, enter "vpn".

12. Click the Advanced button, and make sure "Send all traffic over VPN connection" is selected.

13. Click the OK button and then the Apply button.


To connect to the VPN, click the Connect button under Authentication Settings.

Use "vpn" as the shared secret, and use the username and password you received in the email.

Setting Up VPN on Your Android Phone

Instructions for configuring the built-in VPN client on your Android device.

Configure the VPN connection

  • From the Home screen go to "Settings", then under "Wireless & Networks" touch "More...".


  • Touch "VPN".

  • Touch "+" to add a new VPN connection.


  • For "Name" enter e.g. "UoE L2TP VPN".
  • For "Type" select "L2TP/IPSec PSK".
  • For "Server address" enter the server address you were given.
  • For "IPSec preshared key" enter "vpn".
Edit VPN profile


  • Touch "Save" to apply the configuration. Your newly configured VPN should now be listed.
  • Connect to the VPN service

    To connect to the newly configured VPN service, touch the entry in the list of VPNs.

  • Enter your username and password.
  • Ensure "Save account information" is NOT checked.
Connect to VPN


  • Touch "Connect".
  • The entry in the VPN list should show as "Connecting..."

  • The status will change to "Connected" when authentication is successful and a key icon should appear in the status bar.

To disconnect from the VPN service

  • From the Home screen go to "Settings", then under "Wireless & Networks" touch "More...".
  • Touch "VPN".
  • Touch the connected entry in the list of VPNs.
  • Touch "Disconnect".

Setting Up VPN on Your iPhone/iPad

1. Tap Settings

3. Tap VPN

4. Tap Add VPN Configration

5. Tap L2TP Tab

Enter in the connection info:

 • Description:  whatever you want to call the connection

 • Server:  the server you have selected.

 • Username:  the username you received.

 • Password:  the password you received.

 • Secret:  "vpn"
